can’t think of what to write?

Start with a series of lists: things you’d like to do in the future, things you’ve done in the past – do you have regrets? Is there someone you’ve lost contact with? Is there someone or some event that changed you in unanticipated ways?  List objects in your favorite place, list what you believe you would find in the pocket of someone dear who betrayed you.  List everything you’ve lost in your lifetime.  List dreams, nightmares, things that are red, things that are invisible.

When you’ve had enough of that, combine the lists in random patterns, alternating words and topics, phrases and fragments. From there create a poem, or a short story, or the opening of a novel or memoir.
